in for good news. Striker, a small budget movie directed by Chandan Arora and starring Telugu superstar Siddharth, may be the first-ever movie to release on YouTube on the same day as its theatrical release date. The film’s producers, Indian Films, have tied up with YouTube to premier Striker in the US on February 5. It will be made available to viewers in other countries – excluding India and Pakistan – the following day.
Says Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of Indian Films, “The reality is that theatrical releases in international market, work only if they features the top 5-6 Hindi movie stars. Smaller, concept-driven films aren’t received that well. But screening a film on a platform like YouTube allows us to reach targeted audiences from specific geographies.” In India, the film, which revolves around a carom player from Mumbai in the mid-eighties, will only be released in theatres.
